Women from across the country hit the ice today in Montreal with hopes of capturing the coveted National title and ultimately represent Canada at the 2014 Worlds. On the cusp of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, will the support for our national teams fall in the shadow of Team Canada as they vie for gold? The face of our elite curlers across the country is changing with a surge of younger, stronger athletes who dedicate as much time to their fitness regimes as they do to their performance. Will this new approach and dedication to the sport, coupled with the upcoming Olympics, re-kindle or ignite community interest in our grass roots curling programs and leagues?
How many shots does it take to bag a turkey? For one local curler - it's 4! At a recent mixed curling event, two curlers went head to head in a draw to the button during the Hot Shots competition. In the end Wendee Copeland edged out Herb Wycherley by drawing to the button (and covering the pin) 4 consecutive times. Herb made three perfect draws before coming up short on his 4th attempt and settling for a baby turkey consolation prize. Well done!
